I didn't know you couldn't hurt Asriel in the final boss fight. I accidentally hit the fight button and freaked out, thinking I was gonna mess up my Pacifist run. Good thing he can't be touched haha. Almost broke a sweat

He has upgraded: he has bigger hair *and* he has cooler belt than before

So I guess technically WIgglytuff was right that no Pokemon is truly all bad, though the fact that it makes a mind wipe to "redeem' Darkrai would make that one debatable. Not sure if that should count as redemption, lol. In any case, a great ending to a great story, and a great job by Theaggyyu putting this together. Thank you so much!

That scene starting from about 13:15 gets me as emotional as the ending of the main game, honestly. To have that kind of weight on you, honestly being gaslit into thinking that the world might be better off if you were dead, that's an enormous burden to have lifted, and you can see it in Ryu's expressions and dialogue. And then when Wigglytuff chimes in with his encouragement, I still tear up at that part. Such a moving scene with a powerful truth that can touch a lot of players out there who might be struggling with their own self-worth. I absolutely adore this scene. Also, Palkia is legit frightening, in many ways moreso than Primal Dialga, who at least was basically just mentally checked out. Palkia is very much in his right mind and out for blood until the truth comes out, and even later as an ally still packs lots of edge.

That moment when you realize that the villain is trying to get the player and their partner to commit literal suicide. Dark. Though I wish they hadn't telegraphed the twist with Cresselia and Darkrai so early, would have made it even more interesting as we go along. Also, poor Azurill can't catch a break. Why do the villains pick on the youngest kid in the game?

Ugh, Aegis Cave. If the Unown spawned on each floor weren't so random it wouldn't be so bad. Team Charlie's Angels ain't so bad, I guess. Their connection with Wigglytuff, as explored in Special Episode 4, is interesting. Though this is another postgame chapter where the player and partner are basically mute window dressing. Also, the rest of the guild disappears halfway through the dungeon and no one cares? Classy.

Poor Scizor. Mostly forgotten for decades in-story, then forgotten again by most players due to his story arc being a short one sandwiched in-between either the graduation arc and the Manaphy arc in Time / Darkness, or between the Shaymin arc and the Manaphy arc here in Sky. That Blizzard Island Medley is yet another standout music track, BTW. Manaphy is a cute little guy. Nice to see Chatot being the wise one in a chapter, he's come a long way from the beginning of this game.

Shaymin is cute, and this is a fun segmented dungeon with generous save points. I only wish the player and partner weren't so generically mute for this postgame chapter. Why was this necessary? Still, nice addition to the game. And it gets me my Sky Jukebox so I can play this excellent soundtrack whenever I want upon booting up the game, so I'm good.

So everyone knows about the "trick" behind The Grand Master of All Things Bad and his "minions" except Jack and Ryu, despite Loudred seemingly being the only one of the apprentices who had tried to graduate before. How does this make sense? Everyone else gets to know what graduation from the guild entails ahead of time except them? Even Bidoof??? What the heck? Yes, I know the real reason for this is so the player will be kept in suspense about the graduation and the battle until the right point in the story, but in-universe I can't think of a single way to explain this in a way that makes sense.

If they had added nothing else but this special episode to Sky, it still would have been worth it. Don't get me wrong, I like the other four special episodes, the Shaymin postgame chapter, the Spinda cafe, the Sky Jukebox, and all the little QoL touches to Sky, but that's just how excellent this episode was. (Well okay, I wouldn't give up the Sky Jukebox either, I love this game's music!) Feels great to see more Grovyle and Celebi, see how things turned out for the future cast, and see Wigglytuff's claim of "No Pokemon are truly all bad" get more proof of its truth in Dusknoir's turn. If there is one point I take issue with though, it's Dialga's statement at the end. Why was it possible for Dialga to wish Jack / the player back at the end of the main story, yet somehow beyond his power to do the same for the future crew here? I know they were making an unspoken reference to Arceus here, but it still comes across as contradictory. Still, excellent special episode, easily the best of the bunch and worth the price of admission.

Even after playing Rescue Team and seeing such a similar ending, this one still gave me the feels something huge. It's just written and developed so well, you can't help but be moved, even when feeling pretty confident that the story will find a way to bring the player back. Great writing. I know they aren't here to read this, but my heartiest congratulations to the Explorers writing team for this masterpiece. Easily the best story for a Pokemon game, still to this day. Also, I like thinking of the ending this way: Player hears credits music: "Why is this song so freaking cheerful after the meat grinder they just put my emotions through?!" Dialga: "Hold my beer."

Oh boy, the emotions start to get real here. 3:44 Kinda ironic for the emulator to glitch up during a scene where they talk about the waves and stuff being messed up, lol. 9:02 Honestly, even though this track plays here at such a major story moment and is specifically called "Battle Against Dusknoir", I never really associate it with this battle and actually forgot it played here until I saw the track title. I always associate this one with that certain OTHER major boss battle that it plays during, which it feels even more ominous and appropriate for.

Yet another one of my all-time favorite Pokemon that is an important NPC (Lapras). This game really does put so many of my faves in roles bigger than just "random recruitable dungeon Pokemon". Also, Chatot finally has his Crowning Moment of Awesome. Also also, Team Skull shows up yet again in a situation where we don't get to fight Skuntank, boo. I don't care that they did a Heel-Face Turn here, I'm still annoyed I never got to be the monster to clobber that there Skuntank!

5:11 I don't believe for a second that Chatot believed Jack and Ryu all along. That was just Wigglytuff covering for his buddy, so he wouldn't lose face after everyone else believed them. Plus it makes for a funnier moment that way. Poor Torkoal. That had to be a long walk for a tortoise after finally remembering such a small detail to share with the party. I'm glad it turned out to be important for the poor guy's sake.

I didn't really care much about Charlie's Pokemon Angels at first, especially since they left a bad first impression on me (seriously, why not just take the treasure right away? Why hang around and pose as statues just to troll some poor, unsuspecting treasure hunter who never did anything to you, and who you possibly buried alive since you never actually see him get out of the cave) but this special episode has grown on me over time. Aside from that lousy beginning, we get some nice dungeons, more chances to see Wigglytuff be awesome, an interesting twist, and a neat tie-in to the main story with the Time Gear. Not to mention the Team Charm theme song is absurdly catchy, another standout in a great OST. That said, I hate the Aggron + Lairon boss fight. Especially since the game makes you control Lopunny, then only gives her attacks that the Pokemon in question are DOUBLY resistant to. Thank goodness for Medicham being there.

Y'know, I want to make fun of Ryu for being dumb yet again by just casually suggesting that they walk right back to the guild with Grovyle...but in all honesty, the next story chapter shows that the guild probably would've believed them and trusted Grovyle without too much objection, so it really wasn't THAT dumb. Still, it was probably wiser at that point to follow Grovyle's advice and keep a low profile at first, so as not to create a stir in the town and draw attention. 2:24 Such a cool place to live, a hidden open cave at the edge of a cliff shaped like a shark. Between this and the Pokemon-shaped house you get partway through Rescue Team, this series gets some cool living quarters options for the player.

Ah yes, the big twist about Jack's past and relation to the plot. Great stuff. The track that plays during that scene may be called "Hidden Highland" for the dungeon it plays in, but for me it will always be remembered best for playing during both this scene and the twist in Special Episode 5. 2:42 Ryu being an idiot again. This kid really says some dumb stuff sometimes, lol. I get being in denial about Dusknoir, but that wasn't going to be the best way to handle it in any case. Says a lot that Jack was just as shocked as Grovyle by that move. 7:53 Introducing one of the best characters in the game, finally. Celebi in this game manages to be cute, sassy, and awesome all at the same time. I would totally ship her with "her dear Grovyle".

For me, as good as this game had been up to this point, this was the chapter that elevated this game above Rescue Team (which I already thought also had a good story) and into something truly special. The fugitive arc from Rescue Team was good, but this just raises the stakes even higher. Stuck in a dead world, your former mentor trying to execute you, your former enemy now turned into an uneasy ally, the player and partner really having to bond in the face of adversity...such great stuff.

This one's okay. Not my favorite, not my least favorite special episode. I like Sunflora as both a character and a Pokemon, but Loudred gets on my nerves a bit. Especially SINCE his verbal TIC of capitalized WORDS happens more OFTEN in this special EPISODE, and in places WHERE an emphasis MAKES no SENSE at ALL. Also, that last Haunter fight is an absolute nightmare. Automatic burn trigger + confusion and curse spamming? Yikes.

I was embarrassingly slow to pick up on the twist, but when Grovyle gets led out muzzled, that's when even I started to think something was fishy. Why muzzle the poor guy if you have nothing to hide? Though given how stupidly Grovyle refused to even try to explain himself leading tup to that point, it's not an absolute guarantee he would have been smart enough to try to explain himself even then, lol. Even then though, Dusknoir suddenly grabbing Jack and Ryu and pulling them with him shocked me, I didn't expect a twist to go down that way. I've seen people question why Dusknoir would take Ryu (the partner) with him as well as Jack (the player). I think it boils down to the strong bond that Jack and Ryu had. Dusknoir knows from seeing them together that taking one without the other would cause them to fight that much harder to reunite somehow, not to mention Ryu would never buy Jack just "accidentally" going with them into the future and would spread suspicion about Dusknoir. Taking both of them makes those who are less familiar with them less likely to question the suspicious nature of them leaving, and also (he hopes) saps both their morale and ability to fight back by killing them both.

Azelf is kinda awesome here. Makes you wonder why no one else thought of protecting the Time Gears this way. Also, why didn't Grovyle just freaking try to explain things? Poor Communication Kills, indeed. Cool puzzle with the crystals, I like that part. Another great dungeon setting.

Grovyle is an awesome character and the Treecko line is one of my favorite starter lines in the entire series...but I can't help but wish that the role of Grovyle in this story was played by another Pokemon. If a major character hadn't been a Grovyle, I probably would have picked Treecko as my avatar player because I love it so much, but I didn't want my player or partner to be redundant with another major character from the save evolutionary line, so I didn't choose him. Though I suppose in a story sense that it could have been seen as ironic or appropriate that either the human becomes a Pokemon from the same line as his original partner, or that he gravitates towards a partner from the same line, but I still would've preferred Grovyle be a different Pokemon. Still, great chapter and a fun boss battle. Not sure why the game had to make us go through the dungeon twice, couldn't Jack have just spoken up the first time before Ryu stupidly railroads him away from the quicksand pits? Feels like padding.

The chapter that introduces Dusknoir. Great character, not gonna lie, I didn't see the twist around his character coming at first. I do have one question in regards to motivation in this chapter. What reason does Dusknoir have to so urgently save Ryu and Jack at Far Amp Plains from the Manectric and Electrike? At this point, Dusknoir doesn't suspect Jack of being important in any way, not until after he rescues them does he realize who Jack is. Until that point he was just another random kid. And at this point, all Dusknoir really cares about is catching Grovyle and finding the whereabouts of his partner, whom again he has no realize to realize isn't currently human until after rescuing Jack. It seemingly serves no purpose for Dusknoir to care one whit about what happens to these two. So why go save them? You have to think he was kicking himself later for not just letting them get mauled. Oh, and Ryu has another random jerk moment at 1:01 there. Ryu's response to Loudred taking a shot at him...is to take a return shot at poor Diglett instead who had nothing to do with the insult? Classy, kiddo.

One of the better special episodes here. Anyone else think that the Budew from this episode is intended to be Roserade from Team Raider in the postgame? Roserade is the only member of Team Raider that specifically mentions Wigglytuff, and Wigglytuff himself mentions them around the same time, so they clearly have a connection of sorts. You really have to wonder what Armaldo did to become such a notorious outlaw, given that he just comes across as a grumpy old hermit throughout the entire episode.

Love that picture of Fogbound Lake at the beginning. Heck, the view at the area with the Time Gear is beautiful too. This game is more beautiful than it has any right to be. I love how the story cuts between Chatot describing a fight with Groudon as practically suicide, as Jack and Ryu prepare to fight "Groudon". Though honestly, even fighting the creation of a legendary trio character like Uxie is still crazy impressive...not to mention they'll directly fight another legendary trio character just two chapters later.
